What started as two design students in Toronto, endlessly arguing over fabric weights and hemlines, grew into something neither of us expected — a small studio in Vancouver, and years later, a community of women across Canada who were done buying clothes that fall apart after one season.
We named ourselves Michael & Claire Vancouver after the city where we built it all. Vancouver taught us something about pace — that the best things are made slowly, and worn for years, not weeks. That's the spirit we brought to your closet. No trend-chasing. No pressure. Just pieces that feel like they were made for the life you actually live.
It started with a wool coat. Claire's mother wore hers for over twenty years — Claire still has it. That coat is the whole reason she went into fashion design: not to chase next season's "it" piece, but to make things worth keeping.
Michael and Claire met in design school, both a little out of step with their classmates. While everyone else sketched what would sell for one summer, the two of them kept asking the same question: why doesn't anything get made to last anymore?
Years later, in a one-bedroom apartment in Vancouver, they cut their first piece on the kitchen table — a linen dress, meant to be worn for years. They sold twelve to friends before there was even a website.
So they kept going. Not trendy. Not disposable. Just well-made clothes for women who'd stopped caring what was "in" — because they already knew what worked for them.
